Skin infections
The skin has an important role in protecting the body. There are different causes
in children and adults for skin diseases.
Prickly heat: In the summer and rainy season, due to humidity, children get prickly
heat. This causes them to scratch and when the skin is broken, there is infection
leading toboils.
What to do?
The child needs to be bathed at least once a day, or if possible, twice a day. In
different cultures, plants/leaves are traditionally used for their protective/curative
role in skin diseases. Likewise, one can make a paste of neem leaves or a similar
plant and apply on the body.
1. The child must be kept clean; it is the best way of preventing skin infections.
2. Finger nails should be cut short to prevent injury on scratching.
3. Clean, loose, cotton clothes are best in the summer.
4. Face, hands and legs and feet of the child should be washed after play.
