What happens when a person has an infection?
Most STIs may be asymptomatic, but the following symptoms can occur.
Men have:
1.Pain or burning sensation while passing urine.
2. Watery discharge from the penis which after 2-3 days becomes thick and
yellowish (pus).
3. Sudden, severe pain in one testicle.
4. Swellings on the penis.
5. Ulcers on the penis.
Women have:
6. Difficulty in passing urine.
7. Pus in the urine.
8. Increased discharge from the vagina that may have a bad smell or may be
yellow in colour. Vaginal discharge may be thick, having a foul smell and
yellow pus.
9. Itching and pain in the vagina.
10.Irregular bleeding.
11.Pain in the lower part of the abdomen.
12. Infections which lead to sterility (inability to have a child).
What should be done if anyone has the above signs and symptoms?
13. One should go to the hospital or health centre for investigations and treatment.
14.Both partners must be treated otherwise the infection will recur.
15.The diseases can be treated and cured if seen in the early stages.
16.Delay in treatment will worsen the disease, making it more difficult to cure
the disease.
17.It is very important to give correct answers about sexual habits, so that correct
treatment can be given.
How to control the spread of STI
18. By changing the lifestyle and sexual behaviour. By being faithful to a single
partner.
19.Using condoms when having sex with a partner.
