What to do during an earthquake

Some earthquakes are actually foreshocks and a larger earthquake might occur
sooner or later. It is important to, therefore, be alert and plan joint action with
other community members.
1. If indoors, it is best to stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to go
outside. Most injuries occur when people inside buildings attempt to move to
a different location inside the building or try to leave.
2. One should DROP to the ground; take COVER by getting under a sturdy table
or other piece of furniture; and HOLD ON until the shaking stops. If there isn’t
a table or desk near you, people can cover their faces and heads with their
arms and crouch in an inside corner of the building.
3. It is important to stay away from glass, windows, outside doors and walls, and
anything that could fall, such as lighting fixtures or furniture.
4. If outdoors, one should move away from buildings, streetlights, and utility
wires and stay there until the shaking stops.
